Varanasi, From a Distance

Standing on the roof of my guest house, removed from the olfactory elements, it's a nice vista to behold. At 6am, even from up here, you could hear the puja music broadcast from the ghats: Om Nama Shiva Om Nama Shiva Om Nama Shiva... Over and over, for hours. It's a prayer to Lord Shiva, the god of creation and destruction.
